This service introduces The Youth Workshops, an interactive, co-designed workshop model specifically developed to support V&A East’s mission of making the Storehouse a meaningful and engaging space for East London youth between the ages of 16 and 25.
According to Montacute (2018), 61% of internships in the UK’s creative sector were unpaid or underpaid, significantly creating economic and network barriers for low-income working-class youth.
These issues highlight the challenges local youth face, including a mismatch between what education provides and what creative employers need, and unequal access to the networks, experience and credentials that open doors in the creative industries.
An internship will be a great opportunity for East London youth to gain experience, learn on the job, and earn money. This can be a significant difference in their future opportunities, as the learning curve will be steep.
The candidate will first do a 3-month internship at the creative organisation. Then do a 3-month internship at the V&A storehouse itself. The candidate will gain experience in both the museum and the creative organisation work experience while doing this. At the end of the internships, they will receive a certificate of internship from the V&A, which will add significant value to their resumes and future opportunities
